“I honestly can’t see why people think Khal Drogo is some great romantic hero, aside from them finding Jason Momoa attractive. To me, he will always be a rapist. Despite his wedding night and Dany’s eventual feelings for him, he still raped her repetitively, raped others, and approved of the rape perpetrated by his khal. Just because that’s the “way things are” in that world, does not make it right.”

someone didn’t read the book

Well it’s possible that this person has only read the books as it is only ‘Game of Thrones Confessions.’ But it makes you realize that a good portion of the people who are fans of the show also read the book, and it’s so common that we just expect people who submit confessions to have read them also.

Yes and most of the confessions ARE from the books. This person has only seen the GoT show but if s/he had read it, would know that this ‘rape’ part is a mistake, such as forgetting Blackfish

Y’all are harping on the confessor for not reading the book, but judging by your responses I’d say you didn’t read the confession.
There is nothing in this confession that is incorrect. He raped her in the books, and they aren’t talking about the wedding night, since they clearly state ‘despite his wedding night’.
Reading comprehension is a beautiful thing. I hope you see that someday.

But is it truly rape if that’s all he, being immersed in/having lived in that culture his entire life, knows? Taking her “from behind” as it was described in the books, that is the only way the Dothraki did it. They didn’t know any different. Maybe this is beside the point, and please understand that I am in no way ever condoning or endorsing rape, but that’s what their culture is. I think a valid argument could be made for that.

I don’t see what taking her from behind has to do with anything. Dany did not willingly consent to the sex, therefore it is rape.
I see a bunch of people making the cultural relativism argument, and I would suggest maybe you read up on why cultural relativism, while having some attractive qualities, is overall bullshit. There are things that will always be wrong, regardless if they are considered ‘normal’ in a culture, and that includes rape.

…so you wish your boyfriend was a rapist?

…so you wish your boyfriend was a rapist?

I think it’s odd that you can’t joke about rape, when people joke about murder all the time. A lot more people are dying than getting raped. I think it’s a comedian’s job to make everything funny. Nothing is off-limits.

For the people wondering what Donald Glover had to say about jokes involving rape.

Reblogging so everyone knows how much Donald Glover sucks.

Now that we’ve all acquainted ourselves with Terry…

Let us move onto his work!

Now, in that interview he states multiple times that his characters are heroes who perform great deeds. After all, there is no point in writing unless you are going to glorify the human spirit and all it is capable of.

I’m going to post a few more quotes from Terry about the importance of heroism just to drive the point home even more (and I want you to remember these when you read the passages I post!)

“a story is a representation of the author’s values. When you share those values, when you have the same values as the author, you’re reading a story and seeing your values which may be difficult to understand in daily life because they take place over such a long range.”

“Sam Raimi is a person who believes in heroes. His Spider-Man movies are obviously about a heroic person who’s rising up to challenges. Sam was instrumental in making that movie about a real person. He understood that [Spider-Man] is about a real individual who had to rise to challenges and be heroic. He strongly believes in the sacredness in heroes for all of us, for kids and adults alike. That’s something that really drew him to Wizard’s First Rule: he loves the characters; he loves the heroic aspects of [the story].

“The main characters are Richard and Kahlan. They think like I do because they’re my heroes. They are people I admire and look up to, and I have them reflect the kind of thinking that, to me, is heroic thinking.”

They think like I do because they’re my heroes. They are people I admire and look up to, and I have them reflect the kind of thinking that, to me, is heroic thinking.

They think like I do because they’re my heroes. They are people I admire and look up to, and I have them reflect the kind of thinking that, to me, is heroic thinking.

I cannot emphasize this point enough.

So, about these two characters: Richard Rahl and his lady friend Kahlan.

Kahlan gets threatened with rape a lot. Richard saves her from rape a lot. Richard also likes to make long speeches about how awesome Objectivism is. He is a great leader or something. He wields the Sword of Truth. It’s a sword…with the word Truth engraved onto it.

I think that’s all we need to know about these characters.

I can’t wait to see what heroic deeds they get up to!

*I HAVEN’T ACTUALLY READ THE BOOKS BUT I FEEL LIKE I AM QUALIFIED TO RIP THEM APART ANYWAY*

IKR? Let us shed a tear in remembrance of this serial-rapist piece of shit.
And no, you dense fucks, I’m not talking about Dany and Drogo’s wedding night. I’m referring to the fact that Drogo was the leader of the largest Khalasar and you would have to be delusional to think he hadn’t raped his fair share of women in his time. And he never saw that as wrong, he only stopped his own men because the pretty white girl asked him to, not out of any sense of morality.
