“Dany and Frodo must be the two most annoying literary characters created since man began to tell stories. Their authors begin their tale in such a way that you fall in love with them and tie your hopes to the success of their quests. And then they seem to turn into such bumbling idiots you no longer know how to feel about them and a small part of you wishes they would just die; and the guilt associated with that is just too much. Sigh. The frustration!”

This is the dumbest confession I’ve read in a long time, and that’s saying a lot.

He would.

He would.

Aaaaw yeeeaaaaah.

Got a conditional offer from the grad program I wanted.

I guess they must have liked my ten page essay on why HP and LOTR»»»ASOIAF. (I’m more shocked that it counted as an essay on English Literature tbh.)

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Anonymous asked: Doubtless you know this, but Tom Hiddleston will be playing Henry V in a BBC Miniseries reasonably soon. Just saying. And, also, favourite chapter in ASoIaF, favourite chapter for LOTRs (WoTR or Silmarillion)?

Ah yes. Unfortunately, I do not have high hopes because when even the most physically perfect man to ever grace the planet cannot pull off that bowl cut, there is a problem. ;)

As for favorite chapter in ASOIAF, let me think…a certain wedding chapter in ASOS is extremely satisfying!

For LotR, the last chapter, The Grey Havens, is really beautiful and moving and omg, I’m not crying, it’s just raining on my face. It’s been years since I’ve read The Silmarillion so I don’t remember it very well unfortunately. I should reread it again, I think I would appreciate it more now that I’m older.

“GRRM is better than Tolkein because he doesn’t have a moral edge to his stories. It’s what makes them perfect. They show true human nature.”

Go home.
I’ve already written at length about this subject over the past few weeks because of my admissions essay so I don’t feel like going into a lot of detail but to say this makes GRRM better is ridiculous.
GRRM and Tolkien are telling different stories, and both come to different conclusions regarding human nature. While Tolkien’s is more hopeful/optimistic, that does not in any way make it inferior to GRRM’s. Whether or not GRRM is more ‘realistic’ in his portrayal of human nature is debatable as well, imo he just goes to the opposite extreme by making everything so fucking nihilistic.
Anyway, this confession is dumb and the confessor should feel dumb.
I don’t care if people like ASIOAF more than LOTR, that just means you have bad taste and that’s not your fault, a lot of people suffer from bad taste. However, to say that ASOIAF is better than LOTR in any way is just delusional.

“I think GoT cast is the best cast ever. Thanks to Twitter I can see how they interact and spend time together bowling, going places, and I love it. They all seem so warm, welcoming and friendly, hanging out with the newest cast members. It makes me love them all even more.”

Noooooope.

One cast to rule them all, thank you very much.

Anonymous asked: Do you have another tumblr, your hilarious and would love to hear your non-ASOFAI rants. GoT is my secret shame.

Haha thanks but I don’t. I love running this tumblr but I don’t feel like I have the time or really even the interest in another one.

I feel like I post a bit about my other interests here as well (Harry, LotR, Britney), sometimes more than people would like to read about tbh! (I don’t think anyone wants to hear about my Hiddles/Hairline shipping). And that is basically what my personal tumblr would be like.
