Winter Is Coming, Bitches

I’d just like to take a moment to wish one of my favorite women in the world, Miss Britney Spears, a happy birthday! Today she turns 30.

She’s given us some of the best pop songs and videos of the past decade and enough gossip fodder to fill several books. At the end of the day though, what I love about her is her enduring humility and sweetness. I wish her all the happiness in the world. <3

In honor of Thanksgiving I am doing something a bit different tomorrow.

Now, I know some of you out there think I hate George but that’s not true. I enjoy poking fun at him and I find his work ethic (or lack thereof) deplorable and I think he needs to be more upfront about his ‘give-a-fuckness’ regarding the series but overall he’s a nice enough guy.

So tomorrow my tumblr will be dedicated entirely to an author deserving of hate and vitriol.

I hate him so very, very much.

It’s a surprise, bitches.

But by the end of the day, we should all feel grateful for GRRM, for despite the delays, the cockteasing, the dismissal of any ‘negative’ fans as trolling, we could have it so much worse.

I am making up and queuing posts at the moment and already I can feel the yeard sucking the life force out of me. But he will not win. I mock because I can, and by God I will not stop.

There’s always been a ridiculous amount of hate leveled towards Cat in this fandom but I feel like lately I’ve been seeing so much more thanks to the new confession blogs.

So I’d like to go over the most common reasons for hating her and why they are shit.

And before y’all start with the self-righteousness, I’m not calling anyone a misogynist. So don’t even.

1.) Cat is cold, unfeeling, a bitch, etc.

Here is some Cat Stark being a cold unfeeling bitch for your viewing pleasure:

Look at that picture. This HBIC feels more deeply than anyone in the series. She is constantly facing some new sort of grief and yet she goes on, because she needs to be strong for others. She is selfless.

2.) BAAAAAW, SHE WAS MEAN TO JON.

Okay, first off, not really. She was cold towards him, yes, but so what. She has no relation to Jon and he is a constant reminder of her husband’s infidelity. I’m sorry but I don’t think not liking a child makes someone a bad person (but then I loathe all children sooo).She was never warm towards Theon either, despite the fact he grew up in Winterfell but you never see anyone complaining about that.

The one time she was an outright bitch towards him was right after her son had been pushed out of a fucking window and was presumably dying.

Also, since this scene is a bit different in the show, if you haven’t read the book she tells Jon “it should have been him”.

Yes. She tells Jon Snow he should have been pushed out the window and laying there dying instead of her beloved son.

And you know what?

Good for her.

She was just saying what we were all thinking. Unless for some reason you don’t think Jon should be pushed out a window, then you have issues that I can’t even begin to address.

Look at this gormless bitch’s face. I would gladly push him out a window just for funsies.

3.) If she had just stayed in the kitchen at Winterfell so much misery and death would’ve been avoided!

First, let’s look at why she left Winterfell.

Yeah, that’s Cat unthinkingly grabbing onto a knife to protect her son. Your faves would never.

After some digging around, she comes towards the conclusions the Lannisters were involved (and she was right).

She knows Ned can’t do anything about it while surrounded by Lannisters, and Robb is not prepared to get involved with this sort of political intrigue. She doesn’t want to leave Winterfell. She doesn’t want to leave her sons behind. But she sees no other options, and does what she thinks is best.

Here she is capturing Tyrion with some pretty snazzy maneuvering, if I may say so myself.

People always give her shit for this, but she had good reason to believe Tyrion was involved. And honestly, how the fuck was she supposed to know Jaime would go all Rambo on everyone’s ass?

She respected all of Tyrion’s rights, even when it would have been incredibly easy to ignore them up in the Eyrie, which is pretty much impregnable. Her sister Lysa was also itching to throw him out the Moon Door but Cat honored her agreement and let him go when he won his trial.

That being said, there is plenty to criticize about her actions. What I can’t deal with is people who criticize her for taking any action. Fuck off. This is a time when women have very little agency and almost no rights. Cat takes action into her own hands and to me that is refreshing, whether or not you agree with her actions.

But the biggest reason this argument is bullshit…

NED. STARK. NED FUCKING STARK.

OKAY.

NED.

HERE HE IS WITH CERSEI, A MANIPULATIVE AND RUTHLESS WOMAN, TELLING HER HE KNOWS HER DEEP DARK SECRET AND THAT HE PLANS ON TELLING ROBERT AS SOON AS HE GETS BACK. HE TELLS HER TO GET ON A SHIP AND LEAVE. LULZ.

IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT CAT DID IN THE BIG PICTURE. NED WAS SO FUCKING STUPID AND HONORABLE, IT WAS INEVITABLE HE WOULD FUCK EVERYTHING UP. STOP LAYING ALL OF THIS SHIT ON CAT.

4.) Cat should’ve gone back to Winterfell so she couldn’t get involved in the war.

…why?

Her son, Robb, while he would never admit it, needed her. When Robb becomes King in the North, Cat is overcome with grief because she knows the burden he is taking up. He suddenly has all the expectations of the North placed on his shoulders. He needs support, and Cat gives it always, regardless of whether she agrees with him.

At heart, Cat is a Tully, and she takes the words Family, Duty, Honor seriously. That means refusing to leave the side of her dying father or her war-beleaguered son even when ordered to. I cannot even begin to comprehend how this makes her a bad person. 

Also, I’d like to point out that Cat is pretty much the only person making sense in ACOK and ASOS. Unfortunately her opinion has no value since she is a woman. But if people had actually listened to her I think quite a bit of bloodshed in books 2 and 3 could have been avoided.

TL;DR: Cat is one of the strongest characters in the series. The woman experiences a constant barrage of tragedy and death, yet her strength never wanes because she knows people are counting on her. She is impulsive but has the conviction to actually take action and face the consequences of said actions. I am not saying Cat doesn’t have her flaws, she does. But at the end of the day, she is a woman fiercely protective of her family and tries to do what she thinks is right. She does not deserve the hate and vitriol spewed at her. So dislike her if you want but you better have a damn good reason for it.

I don’t know if I should be embarrassed or not. (At least it’s not as bad as making Top Commenters for the first time last night on ONTD…so much shame.)

Moving on, my tumblr experience has thus far been a lovely one! I’m looking forward to all the madness season 2 will bring (also I will be able to play GoT drinking games, so you can all look forward to drunk postings! They will be even more rambling and incoherent than my sober ones.)

Just a note about the inbox, I’ve got quite a few anon asks in there at the moment and I plan on answering them eventually. I just don’t like clogging up my blog with five asks at once, you know? Also, please avoid specific spoilers, otherwise I can’t publish it.

2,000 followers, huh? Man, I would be stressed out. You know, fear of not being funny enough, or not original enough. The internet can be quite the dragon’s nest… KWIM? Make us happy. Or we’ll let our whole tribe and their horses…. well… you know.

I hope my dry sense of humor isn’t wasted, since tumblr failed on me twice while trying to submit this post. Tumblr gods be good, we’ll be enjoying this blog for many moons to come. 

Lol, I actually do think about that all the time. That’s why I could never be a writer or entertainer of any sort, the pressure would push me over the edge.

And thank you, of course! I will be here until HBO decides to cancel Game of Thrones, then I will bitch a lot, and then I will probably just continue to post stuff anyway while living in my own world where Game of Thrones never ends. Or until I get a life.

Sometimes I try to decide which is worse, tumblr or LJ. They are both so full of fail. And right now they are both failing. Perhaps the internet gods are just fucking with me. :(
